Volunteer

Meissner Nordic is a community based organization — for the community, by the community.  Thus, we are always in need of help.

There are two ways that you can volunteer:

  1. Take on a specific project and see it through from beginning to end, or
  2. Take on a position that has defined responsibilities — requires on ongoing, open commitment.

If you are interested in one of the below positions or projects please email the Contact listed in the posting. If you don’t see something you like, but want to volunteer, let us know you can email MeissnerNordic [at] gmail [dot] com directly or fill out the form below:

Current Needs

Trail Ambassador Program

The volunteer Board of Directors of the Meissner Nordic Ski Club continues to look for ways to improve the experience of trail users at the Virginia Meissner ski trail system. This year we have instituted a volunteer Trail Ambassador service. Trail Ambassadors will be out on the trails wearing blue bibs that identify them as folks who can provide assistance and information for winter trail users. Hosts will, during times of heavy use, provide information at the trail entrance and on the ski trails with regard to:

  1. Trail grooming status and conditions
  2. Appropriate trails for user goals
  3. Information on Meissner Nordic Club membership and benefits
  4. Inform and promote trail user etiquette and safety

If you would like to volunteer as a Trail Ambassador, contact Bert Hinkley at bwhinkley [at] gmail [dot] com

We will need ambassadors during Holidays and weekends. We would be looking for 2-3 hours at a time. Service could be at the entry area, or out on the trails. Come join us in helping to make nordic skiing at the Meissner Community Ski Trails even better than before.

Trail Hosts

We have an urgent need for weekend meet and greet trail hosts Meissner Trail Head.  The purpose is to guide people in selecting ski trails,  describe membership and donation programs, answer general questions, and … keep the hot chocolate flowing. Commitment 2.5 hours.  Choose Saturday of Sunday and choose from  9 to 11:30 or  11:30 to 2.   Contact Dani Hinkley at 541-633-7794.

Writer

Be the lead writer for a weekly column in The Source.  250 – 300 words per week. Writing should be light-hearted, fun, and expressive.  The person should be creative and self-motivated.  This position is open to  high school students looking for writing experience.  However, this position is not exclusive to students.  Any help we can get would be much appreciated.

Android Testers

We need your help in testing our new Smart Phone application for Meissener Nordic.  The mobile application replicates many aspects of the web page:  trail conditions, weather information, maps, etc.  To help us out:  1) download the application (directions below), 2) use the application, and 3) give us feedback.

Download Instructions:

  1. Go to the android market from your phone.
  2. Select the search option
  3. Enter Meissner, remember capital M, small M will not find it (why?  I don’t know)
  4. Select the item for download

After downloading you can add to one of your home pages if you like or get to it from your applications button.

Send ANY comments, suggestions, frustrations etc,  to ron [dot] e [dot] deems [at] gmail [dot] com I should be able to answer them promptly.

Please note that since this is the first version we plan on adding a lot of additional functionality, if your market option for downloading has an automatic update feature please select it, we will also announce updates in the various media that you heard this from.  You can also check the market for updates later on if you like.  The main thing was to get an application out before the season ends and then spend the later months getting the harder features created.
